Band of the Week 1 - Wasted Johnnys

We've been busy traveling through India, South Africa, the US and now Ecuador, and we have found a lot of amazing music. In addition, we have met many new fans who are curious about the Korean rock scene. So we have decided to begin our Band of the Week series where we will highlight a new band each week to share their music with the world.

Up first, one of Hongdae's favorites, Wasted Johnnys!

Wasted Johnnys 웨이스티드 쟈니스 is a 4-piece blues-rock band out of Seoul, Korea. They recently toured the UK this summer and have also done tours in New York. They have a hard-rocking, blues-driven, wild and crazy stage presence led by the feverishly energetic Angie An. She will have you hooked from her very first "Get Wasted!"

Follow their page to check out their music and see when they'll be near you next!

Now, let's talk albums.

Discography with pics plus our mini-reviews and links to learn, listen and buy!

Get Wasted! - 1st EP - 4 tracks. An excellent way to get into the Wasted sound and hear their raw energy. Track 4 is a classic!

Now let's talk Wasted LIVE!

You've GOT to see Wasted live on stage the very next chance you get. Here's two quick reasons why:

1. Angie will surprise the shit out of you!

2. You will dance, scream and jump as you feed off their tireless energy~~

Here's what to expect, in 3 quick beats:

1. They will be loud, bluesy and a little bit boozy.

2. Young-jin will be the happiest drummer you've seen this year.

3. Angie will tell you to sit. And you should. Just wait for it.

And just in case you don't believe us, here's an understated review & interview from their latest UK tour: seoul beats

We hope you've gotten to know Wasted (way-ja) a little better, and now we'll close out BOTW 1 with the most important part, the songs!

Recommendations! 5 songs, 5 words why:

"Sign" Why? NO!

"We Are More Than Just Lovers" Why? Passion

"I Like It Hot" Why? Scream-a-long!

"Loud and Headache Girl" Why? Bass!

"Witch" Why? Groove~

There's so much to love about this band, we could do this every week!

To help you get into them even more, go buy Cross Road or hit Spotify and listen to my personal favorite, "Sign."

And as a courtesy, here are the lyrics so you can sing along (plus maybe you'll start reading Korean

너에게 더는 줄 것이 없어 (no-ay-gay doeneun jool go-she up-so)

네 마음이 난 이미 바닥 (nae ma-eum-ee nan ee-me ba-dahk)

I don't want to spend the night with you.

Sign

Why did you ask me now?

Are you come to your home tonight?

For what? Get away!

It was a sign, but you said,

"No, no, no, no, no!"

It was a sign, but you said,

"No, no, no, no, no!"

It was a sign, but you said,

"No, no, no, no, no!"

It was a sign, but you said,

"No!"

I don't want to spend the night with you.
